Enriching the horizon of Vocational Education Training

European Cultural Heritage is an excellent key tool as didactic resource to educate in multiple knowledge areas and social values, and it allows to develop new learning dynamics in the field of vocational training.

The Form-Arte + project aims to test and validate a new learning approach based on the European Cultural Heritage. The project starts from Saint James Way as the first European cultural itinerary, being extensible to other tourist routes and other cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) of the 4 European countries participating in the project, with a three-fold objective:

To strengthen the acquisition of key competences in different professional branches through the Service-Learning methodology linked to the European Cultural Heritage.

Learning and Service is a methodology that integrates learning through real experiences in the social environment, bringing knowledge, skills and values to students, and a direct benefit to society.

Additional acquisition of cultural, environmental and digital knowledge not included in the very same curriculum of VET specialties.

Defence of social values through actions to support the European strategy to fight against climate change, based on the very same professional knowledge acquired seen in conjunction with the European Cultural Heritage’s valorisation.

This innovative learning approach applied to vocational training seeks, together with the acquisition of professional skills, to promote among young Europeans the enhancement of the EU cultural heritage and the defence of social values, including the environment.

This additional knowledge acquired will be a cultural plus useful for VET students in their daily lives, while, within the framework of the project, a service is provided for the preservation and promotion of the European Cultural Heritage.

50 VET trainers from different professional branches and 250 young students from the four EU countries will participate in an online demonstrative pilot action of the methodology and the two intellectual products developed during the project (Guide and Manual) focused on the valorisation, rehabilitation and conservation of European Cultural Heritage and internalisation of environmental principles, measures and criteria, and ICT.

The project aims at trainers and young VET students, VET centres, and institutions from the areas of culture and youth.

This pilot action will demonstrate the sustainability and suitability of the methodology: Service-Learning based on European Cultural Heritage, Environment and ICT + mobile classroom.

Didactic guide for VET teachers in 5 languages (EN, ES, DE, IT, PT) to apply in the curriculum design of different VET branches, an interactive approach based on the Service- Learning methodology applied to cultural heritage and environmental defence.

Manual of Best Available Techniques and environmental Best Practices in 5 languages (EN, ES, DE, IT, PT) to strengthen several training specialties, techniques and eco-efficiency criteria of interest for cultural heritage.

Students participating in the pilot action will be able to put into practice the environmental, cultural and digital knowledge acquired in the field of the European Cultural Heritage.

The aforementioned didactic materials will be tested in 5 languages, through an interactive online training approach, reinforced with face-to-face seminars by moving a multi-purpose mobile classroom equipped with teaching resources to different locations in the 4 countries participating in the project (five in Spain, one in Portugal, one in Italy and one in Austria).

The CO2 emissions generated as a result of the displacement of the mobile classroom during its training itinerary will be compensated through the acquisition of carbon credits linked to projects or initiatives to reduce emissions.

At the end of the project the young participants will compete at European level in the selection of the four best practices carried out that will be awarded € 500 for best Learning practice carried out at the Service of cultural heritage.
